Key stages allow children to be assessed through standardised exams during their school career. Each key stage corresponds to a certain range of school grades and exams set for these key stages allow assessment of the student according to targets outlined in the National Curriculum.
For reference, here are the key stages.
Key Stage 1: 5 – 7 years old ages 5-7 (Years 1 & 2)
Key Stage 2: 7 – 11 years old (Years 3 – 6)
Key Stage 3: 11 – 14 years old (Years 7 – 9)
Astute offers coaching for students in all Key Stages. Our aim however is to always keep your child ahead of the standard expected in the classroom. So, for example, we will always aim for a child in Key Stage 2 to actually reach the level expected at the beginning of Key Stage 3 while still in Key Stage 2. Our aim to do so is greatly benefited by our low student to teacher ratio and excellent tutors who go above and beyond to ensure an effective learning experience for your child. By the end of Key Stage 3, we would already have started preparing your child for the GCSEs.
As well as students being taught how to read and write, they will be taught how to spell simple words and the basic rules of punctuation and grammar.
This will not only help them improve their progress in school, it will help prepare them for the all-important SATs exams.
Students will be taught: Phonics, Reading, Handwriting , Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation.
This, along with learning how to solve basic word problems, gives your child the ability to do much better in their schoolwork as well as in the tests that follow.
We ensure that everything we teach will be reinforcing what they are being taught in school – with a more in-depth understanding and with a more concentrated method of learning.
Students will be taught How to count backwards and forwards as well as:
- Simple addition
